ePrescribing is coming soon

14 April, 2020

With the outbreak of the Coronavirus, the Australian Government has fast-tracked the delivery of electronic prescribing (ePrescribing) to help practitioners protect people most at-risk in our community from exposure to COVID-19.

Zedmed is part of this fast-tracking program and will be releasing this functionality in Version 32, which is scheduled for release in early May.

What is ePrescribing?

Electronic prescribing is an option for prescribers, including doctors, pharmacists, dentists, optometrists, midwives and nurse practitioners to provide their patients with an electronic prescription as an alternative to a paper-based prescription.

Electronic Prescribing allows a patient to receive a token via SMS, email or paper printout for each item prescribed. Once in possession of their token, the patient can then provide this directly to a pharmacy of their choice. This is different from the interim “image based supply” arrangements currently in place.

What does ePrescribing mean for my practice?

ePrescribing solves one of the major problems that practices operating during the COVID-19 outbreak are experiencing, which is how to provide valid prescription documents to patients who can't come into practices, or who are prescribed based on a telehealth consultation.

You will no longer need to worry about couriering, faxing, mailing or whatever workaround you may have been considering in order to get prescriptions to your patients.

This will protect frontline staff, patients and the wider community through reducing community contact and preventing the spread of COVID-19.

How does my practice prepare for ePrescribing?

ePrescribing will be available in Zedmed V32, which is scheduled for release in May. Over the coming weeks, we will have training documents and videos available on our website that will take you through the setup of e-prescribing and how to use it.

If you require assistance upgrading your Zedmed, our Support Team are available on 1300 933 000 or support@zedmed.com.au weekdays from 8am-8pm and Saturday from 9am-1pm.
